Friends of the Harvey Milk Arts Center supports both the Harvey Milk Photo Center and the Harvey Milk Recreational Arts Center, both located under the same roof at 50 Scott St. at the top of Duboce Park.
Our mission is to support the exisiting programming at the HMAC and to expand it where possible.
The Harvey Milk Arts Center was constructed and established in 1954 at the top of Duboce Park, but has been rooted in an area with prevalent artistry since the early 1920s. Originally built as the headquarters for the Performing Arts Division of the Recreation and Park Department of the city of San Francisco, the center has since become a hub for photographers, theater groups, musicians and various artistic and athletic after school programs. The HMAC is an indispensable asset to the city of San Francisco, not only because of its accessibility and affordability, but because of its strong history and long-lasting community support.
